To comprehend the experience of digital data shadow donation, I used a triangulation of methods, combining digital methods alongside a phenomenological approach. The modes used were: Participant observation, Semi-structured phenomenological interviews, and Cross spherical analysis. Given that digital data shadow donors are not a traditional ‘classical’ online community that could be a field site in which to immerse myself, they are a community of anonymous individuals, I drew upon a digital methods paradigm. Therefore I did not exclusively delve into identifying their community but rather mapped the practices through which the digital data donors structure social formations around the focal object of the platform Our Data Helps.
